AB.RC-0002 — High Activity in the RCS

Purpose

Provides operator actions for responding to elevated radioactivity levels in the Reactor Coolant System, including RCS cleanup strategies.

Key Actions / Information

Exam — 2023 Q22
Following confirmation of elevated activity below Tech Spec limits, maximize letdown flow to accelerate RCS cleanup through the demineralizers.
Exam — 2018 Q69
Step 3.15 — transfer to Centrifugal Charging Pump (CCP): the crew IS required to secure 13 Charging Pump (PDP) and place either 11 or 12 Charging Pump (CCP) in service. Step 3.16 — maximize letdown flow: place 1CV3 (45 GPM ORIFICE) in service in addition to 1CV4 (75 GPM ORIFICE) already in service. Trap: 13 Charging Pump is the PDP, not a CCP. Also, maximizing letdown means using BOTH the 75 GPM and 45 GPM orifices — not just the largest orifice alone.
Exam — 2019 Q2
Per AB.RC-0002 Step 3.14, crew is required to have a Centrifugal Charging Pump (CCP) in service — NOT required to swap to the PDP (13 Charging Pump). Per Step 3.16, maximize letdown flow: place the 45 GPM orifice (1CV3) in service in addition to the already in-service 75 GPM orifice (1CV4). Do NOT place both 75 GPM orifices in service — the correct maximized letdown lineup is one 75 GPM orifice plus the 45 GPM orifice.
