At the Controls (ATC) Area Requirements
Exam — 2023 Q6
At least one RO must be within Zone 1 (At the Controls / inner-horseshoe) at all times during Modes 1-6, except for the time period required to acknowledge the receipt of an alarm outside this area or to perform actions required for safe plant operation. If one RO leaves the ATC area, the BOP operator remaining in the ATC area satisfies this requirement.
Zone Definitions (Attachment 4)
- Zone 1 — At the Controls: Inner horseshoe area. At least one RO required at all times (Modes 1-6).
- Zone 2 — At the Controls: Extended control room area.

SM Absence
When the on-duty SM leaves the Control Area, the Unit 2 CRS assumes Control Room Command and Control unless the SM designates a different SRO.
Exam -- 2023 Q94
Unexpected absence during shift change: per Attachment 2 Note 1, the shift complement may be one less than minimum for up to 2 hours to accommodate an unexpected absence of an on-duty shift member. This does NOT permit any shift position to be unmanned upon shift change due to an oncoming member being late or absent. The preferred action is to hold the off-going shift personnel until relief is available. The on-duty RO cannot leave at shift change if no relief is available.
