AB.SF-0001 — Loss of Spent Fuel Pool Cooling
Purpose
Provides operator actions for responding to a loss of spent fuel pool cooling, including SFP temperature and level monitoring, makeup initiation, and emergency fill procedures.
Key Actions / Information
Exam — 2018 Q92
Per S2.OP-AB.SF-0001: when SFP water is at the boiling point (212 °F) and SFP level is at the Low Level alarm setpoint (128 feet, 0 inches), the crew is required to initiate makeup to the Spent Fuel Pool until the HI LEVEL ALARM actuates (not just until the LOW LEVEL ALARM clears). For makeup, the crew can perform S2.OP-SO.SF-0006 (Spent Fuel Pool Emergency Fill) OR S2.OP-SO.SF-0001 (Fill and Transfer of the Spent Fuel Pool) to raise SFP level. Trap: The LOW LEVEL ALARM clears at 128 feet, 2 inches — above the current level — but the procedure requires makeup to continue until the HI LEVEL ALARM actuates. Also, both normal fill and emergency fill procedures are allowed, not just the emergency fill.
