OP-AA-105-102 — NRC Active License Maintenance

⚠️ DRAFT

OP-AA-105-102 — NRC Active License Maintenance

Purpose

Defines the requirements for maintaining an active NRC operator license, including minimum shift hours, proficiency requirements, and license status verification.

Key Requirements

Section 4.1.1.1 — Shift Hour Requirements:

  • Minimum five 12-hour shifts per calendar quarter to maintain active license status
  • Shifts must be performed in a licensed operator capacity (RO, PO, or SRO position in the control room)
JPM — 2020 RO-A2
Active license verification: applicant must determine RO #1 does not meet the minimum five 12-hour shifts per calendar quarter (Q4 2019) IAW section 4.1.1.1. RO #1 had only four qualifying shifts. RO #3 meets all requirements and can relieve. Used in conjunction with OP-AA-105-101 for medical requirements check.
Exam — 2018 Q94
IAW OP-AA-105-102, the quarterly shift requirement to maintain an SRO License is a minimum of 56 hours to be completed with a combination of complete 8- and 12-hour shifts. During a credited shift, the SRO is NOT permitted to perform non-position related administrative tasks outside the control room (e.g., NRC physical). Trap: 40 hours is the OJT requirement to REACTIVATE a license, not the quarterly shift maintenance requirement. Also, even though NRC physicals are required to maintain an active license, they cannot be performed during a credited shift.
